COD Student Killed in Car Accident
The life of a COD student was tragically cut short by a car accident on the night of Friday October 12. Javier Gutierrez, 18, of Cathedral City, was in a roll-over accident on Highway 62, a short distance North of Indian Ave. Gutierrez survived the roll-over and got out of his car, only to be struck by another vehicle, which was reported to be an unspecified model of Sport Utility Vehicle.

Homecoming Festivities, Game Excites COD Crowd
There was plenty of excitement at Boone Field during College of the Desert's homecoming game against the Antelope Valley Marauders on October 27. The Marauders (8-0), squeezed by the College of the Desert Roadrunners (8-1) by a score of 18-13 as the Roadrunners came two yards shy of winning with thirty seconds remaining.

A Homecoming Heartbreaker

Roadrunners football squad came up just short (18-13) in a hard fought homecoming battle against the Antelope Valley Marauders on Oct. 27. Down 18-13 with 32 seconds remaining in the game, the Roadrunners had the ball on Antelope Valley's 2-yard line on 4th and goal, but quarterback Brent Rausch's attempted pass was intercepted, ending the Roadrunners perfect record at 8-1.

Students seeking a career in law enforcement or firefighting can find the training they need right here in the Coachella Valley at the Public Safety Academy at College of the Desert. The Public Safety Academy offers classes every semester, which can be used for a degree in Administration of Justice or Fire Technology.

Cal Ahlers is an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loves the desert. You may have seen him as the Sports Reporter on KMIR news or heard him on KXPS 10-10AM Sports Radio. He's a support of local sp-orts and has his ear to the street in the desert. He is definitely doing his part to get the word out about College of the Desert Athletics.

International Club Gets

The International Club has a new president, Charles Schultze. Schultze is from a multicultural family. He has a Filipina aunt, a Vietnamese aunt, and a fiancé (Magali) from Mexico. He says he really enjoys the spicy dishes his Vietnamese aunt makes and seems to be the only one in the family who can take the heat of what he calls "perfectly made" food.

Every morning around 8, Jessica Montes, a COD student from Coachella, stops by at her local Starbucks and orders a hot caramel macchiato with a shot of espresso. " It helps a lot. Classes are so long, the extra boost makes me pay more attention," she says.

"Andrews System" helps students pay

College of the Desert's own Eve-Marie Andrews, coordinator of the career center and counselor has recently published her textbook, "The Search For Scholarships," a step-by-step guide to finding money for college. "I have devoted my life to helping as many students as I can win Scholarships," Andrews said.
