Musician Joss Stone Coming to Fantasy Springs

Grammy award-winning musician Joss Stone will perform at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio on April 5. The British-born singer-songwriter who hails from Kent, England, has sold over ten million albums worldwide.

Stone rose to musical fame in 2003 with her debut album, The Soul Sessions. Her first single, "Fell in Love with a Boy" (a remake of the White Stripes song, "Fell in Love with a Girl") broke the Billboard Top Forty chart. Stone's second album, Mind, Body, and Soul, was released in 2004 and certified platinum (1,000,000 copies) just twelve months after its release. Her third latest album, Introducing Joss Stone, has since gone gold (500,000 copies)

On the title, Stone told iVillage, "This is the first album that is truly me. That's why I'm calling it Introducing Joss Stone. These are my words, and this is who I am as an artist."

Many of Stone's musical influences include jazz and soul musicians like James Brown and Aretha Franklin.

In 2006, Stone was named the youngest woman on the Sunday Times Rich List, worth an estimated six million pounds (that's twelve million dollars over here). Stone is the main lyricist of her music, which translates into song writing royalties.

A favorite in the British ta-bloids, Stone told LiveDaily on the industry, "When money is involved, hearts are not." She added, "It doesn't matter how young you are. They pretend they want to look after you. But they're making money from you."

Stone is noticeably brash on the subject of fame despite her relative newcomer status and young age of twenty. According to CNN, Stone is managing herself after having gone through several managers in the last four years.

Fans are not the only ones rejoicing Stones' artistic freedom. The album has gotten positive reception across the board. Rolling Stone called it "an album full of solid pop-wise R&B." Billboard added, "'Intoducing' brings us the 19-year old Brit as a confident vocalist demanding R-E-S-P-E-C-T."
