Described by his peers as having a passion for excellence and a fantastic work ethic, David Buttles will be remembered fondly around the College of the Desert campus and within the Coachella community. Passed away from a severe case of lung cancer.

Let's Put "Counsel" in Counselor!

According to Dictionary.com, the second definition to the word "counselor" is "a faculty member who advises students on personal and academic problems, career choices, and the like." However, a series of interviews has shown that the majority of College of the Desert students believe that the definition of College of the Desert's counselors is actually the complete opposite. Students feel that the counselors are simply working at the college campus to get a check that will pay their bills, rather than actually being there to help students achieve their academic goals.

Toyota has issued a recall on an estimated 2.3 million cars in the last month.
The recall is to correct a problem that could cause the vehicle's gas pedals to stick. According to USA Today, sticky gas pedals have caused some drivers to crash into cars, walls, their own garage doors, or embankments.

Professor Ruth Nolan, Associate Professor of English at COD, teaches the creative writing Eng 5A-B classes on Tuesday nights, which are filled beyond capacity for the second semester in a row. She is encouraging COD students and faculty to join an informal, weekly "open microphone" sharing of poetry, prose, and music on Wed-nesdays from 12-1 pm, on the north side of the Hilb Center, beginning Februa-ry 24.

Martin Lawrence, famous comedian, actor, and the man who crowned the phrase "Wazzup", visited the Coachella Valley, Saturday February 12th for a one night only appearance at Fantasy Springs Casino.
The television and movie star is most recognized from the television hit series, Martin, which lasted from 1992 to 1997, and is one Fox Network's highest rated sitcoms.
